The American world view
64 per cent of people questioned for a recent poll said they were open to the idea of teaching creationism in addition to evolution in schools, while 38 per cent favoured replacing evolution with creationism.
40 per cent of Americans believe God will eventually intervene in human affairs and bring about an end to life on Earth, according to a survey carried out in 2002. Of those believers, almost half thought this would occur in their lifetime with a return of Jesus from heaven.
1 adult American in five believes that the Sun revolves around Earth, according to one study carried out last summer.
80 per cent of Americans surveyed by the CNN TV news network believe that their government is hiding evidence of the existence of space aliens.
70 per cent believe it likely that Saddam Hussein was involved personally in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

I hope this is not a spoof. Actually I hope it is.
"On October 1, 2005, Florida becomes a more dangerous place. That's when the Shoot First Law goes into effect, giving the people of Florida the right to use deadly force as a first resort when they feel threatened, even in a public place."

Colorado can do better. Florida may have the 'Shoot First Law' but Colorado trumps it with the 'Make My Day' law!

"The H5N1 strain of influenza - often referred to as bird flu - was first known to have jumped from chickens to humans in 1997. Since 2004 it has ripped through Asian poultry farms, and had a 70% mortality rate in the first 70 people it is known to have infected. Health authorities fear this strain, or its descendents, could cause a lethal new flu pandemic with the potential to kill billions. "
Bloody chickens.

This could be the most cruel of hoaxes if true.
But fantastic news if true.

It’s pretty obvious who my pick for driver of the year would be.
However, it’s nice to see that at least one pundit agrees.
I quote Peter Windsor, “And so it is with Michael Schumacher. Is Michael a worse driver than he was in 2005? Definitely not – and anyone who thinks otherwise in my view has no understanding whatsoever of the art of driving.
On the contrary, you could argue that Michael again broke new ground this year.
Here he was, a seven-times world champion with nothing to prove, driving an uncompetitive car with as much speed and aggression as anyone on the grid.
Name another driver from the past with a similar record who showed the same enthusiasm for racing in the midfield this late in their career.”
…..”my winner of the title (unquestionably) would be Michael Schumacher.”
It’s the final race of the season tomorrow and Michael is still third in the championship. His car as been as much as 2 – 3 seconds off the pace of McLaren and Renault, yet he’s still scored more points than two of the drivers of those cars. An astounding achievement.
Respect.

Well, it was a sad day when Jim Rosenthal made his last broadcast on ITV's F1 coverage on Sunday.
In a sport of minimal excitement his laid back incompetence was a joy to behold and considerably improved the overall spectacle.
ITV have signed Steve Rider. A relative heavyweight I think. Not a bad choice. Though I think he might insist on having a studio to present from.

This foul woman decided to put her cat in the washing machine in order to kill it after it scratched her.
She allegedly bragged: "I put it on boil wash as well."
It seems to me that we live in a country where there is a not inconsiderable minority of people that seem to have no respect, education, empathy for others or, in fact, anything to commend them whatsoever. And I think that this is rather depressing.
