Even more my intellectual hero after his TV show a couple of weeks ago.
Sometimes I wish that he'd 'mince his words' a little more; even for my tastes he can be unnecessarily inflammatory.
But he is right.
Anyway, here is his diary in the New Statesman.
"We don't judge Christians by Hitler's claim to be one, and it is equally irrelevant that many Christians, like many atheists, are nice people. The point is that faith, even moderate faith, is pernicious because it teaches that believing something without evidence is a virtue."

Well. We hear enough about American beliefs regarding evolution and the like.
Here's some sobering news of our own.
40% of people believe that intelligent design should be taught in science classes.
2000 people were asked about the origins of life.
- 22% chose creationism
- 17% opted for intelligent design
- 48% selected evolution theory
and the rest did not know.
It's like the renaissance didn't happen.

On Muslim outrage at satire
"On the world stage, should we really apologize for Dante, Shakespeare, and Goethe? Mozart, Beethoven and Bach? Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh, Breughel, Ter Borch? Galileo, Huygens, Copernicus, Newton and
Darwin? Penicillin and computers? The Olympic Games and Football? Human rights and parliamentary democracy? The west is the source of the liberating ideas of individual liberty, political democracy, the rule of law, human rights and cultural freedom. It is the west that has raised the status of women, fought against slavery, defended freedom of enquiry, expression and conscience. No, the west needs no lectures on the superior virtue of societies who keep their women in subjection, cut off their clitorises, stone them to death for alleged adultery, throw acid on their faces, or deny the human rights of those considered to belong to lower castes."

A Guardian interactive guide to those that have died in the Iraq war.
It's hard to feel a mixture of depression and anger.

A great advert for the great British sense of humour I think.

Yay.
Finally cracked the 20 second barrier last night with a new best non-lucky time of 18.79 seconds.
Much thanks to Dan Harris (follow link).
PS You can see my average is still a woeful 27 seconds.

We all love the idea of Firefox.
We like the notion of Open Source. We want to punish Microsoft for the chronic underinvestment in Internet Explorer. We want a standards-based browser.
However.. there are a few issues.

Yay. IE7 is going to support z-index on <select>s.

Good and bad news. I had a horrible crash on my bike on Monday after a collision with a pedestrain.
Aparts from bumps and bruises, and a smashed up helmet, it turns out my bike is a write-off.
However. Good news. I get a new bike :-).

.. against Tesco that is.
"Tesco is a bully using its huge legal might to lodge appeals against planning applications that are turned down by local authorities, and the people are taking a stand against that."

Literally.
A man caught with having sex with a goat has been obliged to marry it.
Not in this country of course.
"We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together,"
