Wheelchair training

I picked up on this story this morning on Radio 4. Nothing untoward with the story, don???t most prisons have a reasonable amount of bulling and violence going on?

But what beggars belief is that 1 disabled prisoner hadn???t had a shower for 6 months the reason....

" Staff wouldn't push wheelchairs unless they were trained and staff wouldn't get themselves trained to push wheelchairs."

How much training do you need to push a wheelchairs?

This prisoner was lucky to get away with 6 month another one went a whole year to get a shower!

I can't decide if I have any sympathy.

If he's a wheelchair-bound rapist, that would be much different to a bit of incapacity benefit fraud...

What I was trying to get across was the fact that in today???s world people need to be trained to push a wheelchair.

I don???t remember any supermarket giving me training to push a trolley. I bet it???s harder to push a full load supermarket trolley with a wobbly wheel than a wheelchair!

I just wanted to add that I do have a little experience of wheelchair pushing.

After Jan had given birth to our 3rd child she had to spend a couple of days in a wheelchair. Only problem was I kept on leaving her facing the wall or wheeled into a corner which didn???t go down to well ;-)

Ha, you should no me well enough by now to know that I wasn't going to be sympathetic either way, but rather found the idea of a disabled rapist amusingly oxymoronic.

i have to say any female (or male, he might be gay) stupid enough to not only get captured but also raped by a wheelchair bound assailant deserves little sympathy!

Willow, that's misjudged. The victim of a rape always get's sympathy, irrespective of the physical capacities of the rapist. What if they had compensated for incapacity with a terrible cunning?

Thinking about it, what sort of crime can a wheelchair-bound person commit? Fraud, libel?

At risk of sounding a bit right on surely a disabled person is capable of almost any crime.

Aggravated cat-burlary is unlikely though... Likewise stealing Razzle.

that's a wheelchair based disaster right there. they would mess it up, fall out of the chair, the chloroform goes onto them and they pass out for a couple of hours. meanwhile the "rapee" walks away blissfully unaware.
